Dubai is set to introduce a groundbreaking mode of public transport—the Rail Bus—a fully 3D-printed, solar-powered vehicle designed to enhance urban mobility. Announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Monday, this innovative system is expected to redefine public transportation in the emirate.

A Glimpse Into the Future of Public Transport
Currently showcased at the World Government Summit 2025 at Madinat Jumeirah, the Rail Bus stands out with its striking gold and black exterior. Inside, it features two rows of orange seats, ample space for disabled passengers, and a total capacity of 40 people per carriage.
For enhanced passenger experience, real-time journey updates—including next stops, weather conditions, and time—are displayed on screens above the seats. Safety instructions are clearly visible throughout the carriage, and control panels are positioned at both ends for operational efficiency.
Eco-Friendly and Cost-Effective Transport Solution
The Rail Bus will operate on elevated tracks, ensuring a smooth and flexible transit experience, particularly for first- and last-mile connectivity. Designed to integrate seamlessly with Dubai’s existing public transport network, this system aims to offer a cost-effective and sustainable alternative for daily commuters.
With an expected top speed of 100 km/h, the bus measures 2.9 meters in height and 11.5 meters in length. Running entirely on solar power and operating autonomously, the Rail Bus supports Dubai’s vision of becoming the world’s smartest city.
Advancing Dubai’s Sustainability Goals
The introduction of the Rail Bus aligns with Dubai’s key national initiatives, including:
- UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy – Commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
- Dubai’s Zero-Emissions Public Transport Strategy 2050 – Advancing eco-friendly mobility solutions.
- Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy 2030 – Aiming for 25% of daily trips to be autonomous.
By leveraging a lightweight, scalable 3D-printed design, the Rail Bus minimizes environmental impact while maximizing efficiency. Though an official launch date has yet to be announced, this cutting-edge transport solution is set to revolutionize urban mobility and reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a leader in smart, sustainable transportation.
Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative project as Dubai continues to innovate for a greener future.
